Resources for National Farm to School Month Celebrations

October has been declared National Farm to School Month.  The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has been involved with this program since 1997 and we are excited to offer the following resources to help you plan your celebration.  Many of these have been adapted for use in North Carolina from the National Farm to School network website.

Fact Sheet – A brief overview of the NC Farm to School program and National Farm to School month.  This can be used as a handout to send home with students, share with school cafeteria staff, or to give out at speaking engagements.

Press Release – This press release has fill-in-the-blanks so each school district can tailor it to their level of participation in NC Farm to School.  Any students pictured in accompanying photographs must have parental permission, so be sure the school has such on file.

Logos – The Farm to School logos can be used to promote NC Farm to School on menus, letters, etc.  Logos may not be used in a way that implies endorsement of any specific product or service.

Powerpoint – The slides can be used to make presentations to the PTA, school board or other interested group.  The slides explain National Farm to School Month, the NC Farm to School program and leave room for schools to insert pictures and information about their school program.

Suggested activities –A list of activities for cafeteria managers to do with staff, teachers to do with students, Child Nutrition Directors to do in their schools and parents to do at home.

Resources - Find links to farms in the NC Farm to School Cooperative, lesson plans and information on agriculture in NC, nutrition, and resources from other groups/ organizations related to Farm to School.
